MaHTAS (Malaysian Health Technology Assessment Section)
Malaysian Health Technology Assessment Section (MaHTAS) in the Medical Development Division at Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) was established in August 1995. This Section caters to the health technology assessment needs for all divisions and programs in the Ministry of Health. In addition, rapid assessments (referred to as technology reviews) are conducted based on requests to meet the needs of MOH policy makers and various technical divisions. Since April 2001, the development of the evidence-based clinical practice guidelines has been brought under the preview of this Section.

In 2004, MaHTAS was designated as WHO Collaborating Centre for Asia Pacific Region for Evidence-Based Practice in Health Care, and will continue this role until 2012. In the last eleven years, MaHTAS had conducted 41 Health Technology Assessments, 143 Technology Reviews and developed 44 evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines. MaHTAS has been a member of HTAi since 2000 and became a member of INAHTA earlier this year.

Malaysia is home to a unique potpourri of Asian cultures – Malay, Chinese, and Indian – along with many indigenous groups on Borneo Island. It is a mere stone’s throw from Singapore, and is a fantastic holiday destination, with a range of historic sites, beautiful natural scenery, natural tropical rainforest, and exquisite food.
